1978 Volkswagen Type 2

This is the 1978 Volkswagen Type 2 that I used to own. I bought this Bus for in February of 1996. It was in good shape, with minimal rust and a new (kinda sloppy) white paint job, replacing the beige over brown original colors. It had the stock 2.0L Type 4 engine with the stock Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection.

1978 was a good year for the Bus. The Bus received nice sliding windows on the sides replacing the vent wings used previously and the engine also got hydraulic valve lifters, eliminating the need for periodic valve adjustments.

I did a lot of work to this Bus while I had it, including replacing the pushrod tube oil seals, restuffing the front seats, adding a CD player, adding a CB radio and antenna (the antenna is visible in the photo above), and many other things which I can't remember right now. However, it was a great Bus and I had a lot of fun with it.

But, I realized that what I really wanted was a Volkswagen camper van rather than a standard 7-passenger model. So I sold the '78 Bus and bought the '81 Vanagon featured on my Vanagon page.
