It could also be crap in the gas tank. I've had similar problems in the past. As the sediment clogs the fuel filter or the opening in the tank it causes a shortage of fuel and hence the missing. Easy diagnosis by changing the fuel filter and cracking open the old one to see what's inside. Wear your safety glasses...
