Westies at Watkins XII – September 20-21-22, 2013 –
Watkins Glen NY.
 
The countdown is on and less
than a month away! Hopefully this is already on your calendars!
Please join the Empire VW Camping Club on September 20-21-22 in the beautiful
Finger Lakes region of New York State for the 12th annual Westies at Watkins
camping event.
Discover the beauty of the glaciated area of the Watkins
Glen Gorge and surrounding Finger Lakes Region of New York. Come and relax in
this area and enjoy the area by hiking the gorge, biking, antiquing, shopping,
wine tasting, and group activities around the campfire.
 
The name implies Westfalia models but ANY van/car/tent
are welcome to come and participate in this event.
 
CAMPING INFORMATION - NO RESERVATIONS REQUIRED!
 
Show up and select a site in the area reserved for our
group: SENECA VILLAGE CAMPING LOOP. 
We will still be able to double up two vehicles per site and should have room
for about 100.  Cost should be around $20/25 per site per night.
 
Note: This campground loop does not have electricity at
the sites. If you need electricity in your van, then the only camping area at
WGSP with electricity is in the Mohawk Village loop.
 
ACTIVITIES
Gorge hike
Burrito Breakfast planned for Saturday morning for the
entire group (donations accepted)
Communal (pot-luck) dinner at the Iroquois Lodge pavilion
Saturday night
Door prizes Saturday Night
Race Track event on Sunday 
 
COMMEMORATIVE EVENT T-SHIRT
This year’s design art work is from Ken Mitchell (www.paintedbusart.com) and depicts our
buses meandering through the Watkins Glen gorge on their way to the Glen Race
track. 
Pre-orders until Sunday Sept. 8 (includes $5 camping
event cost) via PayPal (joel.cort at xerox.com)
$15 per shirt or 2 for $25 – add $3 for any 2/3XXL.  Limited amounts/sizes
of T-shirts will be available at the campout for $15 each
 
COSTS
Optional Racetrack will cost you $15/vehicle with our
club discount to go on Thunder Road.
Campground with Park Service for your sites ($20/25 per
night), 
I will be collecting $5 as a camping cost to run this
event.  Some have asked what you get for that five bucks.  It will be
applied to:
·         Rental fees for the pavilion ($150)
·         Food contributions ($100)
·         Purchase of selected door prizes ($100)
·         Website maintenance ($110/year)
·         Dash plaques ($120)
·         Miscellaneous supplies ($100)
 
Pet Owner information: 
Dogs and other critters are welcomed at this campout.
The only restrictions are that dogs are NOT ALLOWED ON
GORGE TRAIL, but OK on the Rim trail
Pet owners must show current rabies certificate. ( for
their pets ;-)
