[T2] what went wrong?

Try this as a start.

Leave the .009 installed
Remove valve cover on #1 & #2
Turn engine flywheel until #1 shows both valves being open (TDC)
Remove the top of the .009 to make sure it shows firing at #1 under this condition
Confirm spark plug wires are at correct connect points on dizzy, firing 1-4-3-2
Adjust static timing light to 5 degrees advanced
Shoot some WD-40 or starter fluid in the carb, and see if you can get engine to start.
