[T2] rear y-duct fitting

Anyone ever replace their rear y duct piece?  Trying to replace mine.
 Engine and tranny are out.  I broke free the tack welds, even cut out the
bottom of the crossmember(which I will weld back).  Still can only move it
back and forth about 1 1/2 inches.  Is it supposed to come out the back or
front?  Any tricks?
