You can get the timing in the ball park with a simple electrical test lamp without starting the engine. (static timing) Turn the engine to TDC on compression stroke of #1. (if you are not sure, open the valve cover and check the valve clearances under #1 cylinder. At TDC of compression stroke, both intake and exhaust will fit a 0.6mm feeler gauge underneath.) Now attach the clip of the electrical test lamp to the coil terminal (green) which goes to the distributor, and stick the pointy end on a decent ground. Turn the distributor counterclockwise until the light comes on, then back clockwise until it just goes off again. Good luck, Scott B
