[T2] Shortened main shaft question

Hello volks! 

I originally had a 1600 cc engine in my bus and am going to put a type 4 engine back in.  I had the main shaft shortened in the transmission to accommodate the 1600.  Will I need to put a longer mainshaft back in for the new type 4 engine?
