	All remarks that have reached me, some from v experienced VW 
mechanics, indicate the 34-PICT-3 was a "dog".  While on the whole I 
have great respect for Solex, this would appear to have been their 
anomalous dud.
	Without purporting to compare with the 31-PICT, I can 
recommend the Brazilian "Weber" (the word does not actually appear on 
it :-| but only a large bold W).  If in good condition, this carb 
suits the 1600 dp well despite its being a mere '30'.  Caution: when 
the Brazilian W wears out, it is v difficult to refurbish.
