[T2] Rear Bench Seat support?

Quick question guys regarding the rear bench seat on my '78 westy.

 

When I lift the seat, it appears as though there is supposed to be some sort
of support to hold it open. Either I am missing it, or the piece I have to
hold it open is bent? How is this supposed to be held open?

 

Suggestions, pics anything appreciated.
