If the idle breaks up while your brake pedal is depressed, or there is anything but a tiny drop in idle speed, the booster or the lines to it are leaking vacuum. Also, to check for proper function of a booster, start the engine with the brake pedal depressed. As vacuum builds in the booster, the pedal should drop a bit, & then hold at that lower level for at least 60 sec. without fading. This last test is also a check to see if your brake hydraulics are leaking. Check for brake fluid leaks, including the rear cylinders, before you condemn a booster because of fade. > > If the booster is working, I would look to the carburetor next. Float needle valve or float level issues, or rich/lean mixture issues at idle. I recently had this exact problem when I was trying to see how far I could turn in the idle air screw on a 34-Pict 3. Apparently, I screwed it in too far (lean). A half turn out solved the problem. > > Richard Coombs > > '71 hippie Bus "Putt-Putt" > '71 homebrew camper "Sugar Magnolia" > my71vwbusputt-putt at blogspot.com > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: type2 [mailto:type2-bounces at type2.com] On Behalf Of accessys at smart.net > Sent: Wednesday, September 03, 2014 9:33 AM > To: Max Bronsema > Cc: Type 2 List > Subject: Re: [T2] Engine intermittently turns off while coming to a stop > > > > > On Tue, 2 Sep 2014, Max Bronsema wrote: > >> Date: Tue, 2 Sep 2014 20:21:38 -0700 >> From: Max Bronsema <max.bronsema at gmail.com> >> To: Joseph Delecki <jdelecki at msn.com>, Type 2 List <type2 at type2.com> >> Subject: Re: [T2] Engine intermittently turns off while coming to a >> stop >> >> Bob and Joseph, >> >> Thanks for the quick replies.
