[T2] 002 tranny interchangeability

Volks,

I've got an old 002 transmission lying around, I think from a '72 or '73 based on the stamp and the fact that it's got a late bay bellhousing on it.

I'm assuming that I'd have to change out the input shaft to use this on my '71? Is there any means of testing or measuring this without installing?
