Something doesn't sound right with that engine to need oil anywhere near
that heavy.  Maybe they builder shouldn't have used a gasket on the oil
pump cover???  I typically have run 5w40 oils in my VW year around for
years, or in olden days 30wt in the summer and 10w30 in the winter.
