I'd suggest checking three things;
1. Fuel lines
2. Fuel lines
3. Fuel lines

Seriously, you don't want a fire. Have an extinguisher handy.
Check the points, or just go ahead and clean and gap them. Prime the bowls before you try to start it.
Other than that it'll be a piece of cake. After all these years I still have fun firing one that's been asleep for a while.

Hi all. I'm the proud new owner of a 1971 bus. It has been sitting for about 4
years. I checked the oil and its so clean I can see the dipstick through the
oil.

What should I do in order to start the engine? I want get it fired up and get it
out of its present location ASAP. I don't know the size of the engine, etc.

I'm still in the process of restoring my beetle and '78 Westy, but I miss
driving an old VW.

My autistic son has already named him "Myles."

Thanks for any help.

Not much help for getting the engine started, but my advice would be,
before you plan on starting or moving it: check the brakes and brake lines,
especially the rubber sections and the fuel lines.

It would be bad to have a nicely running engine and a bus that's on fire
and can't stop. :)
