I wouldn't screw around with just replacing one CV joint. On a bus that old, save yourself some time and money. Replace the half Shafts. Autozone and Oreilly have them for around $80 each reman. In my town I have a commercial rebuilder who will regrind and bearing your shafts with new boots etc for $50 to $60 each. Sure they are rebuilt but guaranteed. I've only used the guarantee once on my dozens of VWs and that was Checker auto on a MK2 half shaft. Check around and see what's available. One new CV/boot kit at BD is $70 and AutohausAZ is $80. Half shafts are the way to go. Let someone else clean em! My 2 cents SteveCenterlessville, Utah
