I can't offer any real use reviews of this, but I would think this would not work better than using an iron/gun on 50 y.o. wiring. That is unless you tin the wire ends before using these sleeves, but if you do that what would be the point of using these? I would think these may be very useful in a production setting with new wire being used, but oxidized wire is a different story entirely. I would think you may surround the wires with melted solder, but I would think there to still be a layer of oxidation that may cause future issues. As I said; no practical experience with these, just some limitations I could foresee for this application.
