Ok - thanks for the tips. I'll check my cigarette lighter/12V thingamajig. Based on all of your feedback - sounds like I probably have a bad ground somewhere. Hey Jim - do you have a picture of how you installed the charger you recommend? Some of the new phones have this thing called quick charging. It charges your phone in half the time. For me an ideal charger/phone holder - I don't have the plug the phone it - just put it in the cradle, and it can give me directions without losing charge. This seems like it almost makes it - hopefully I just have a bad ground somewhere. -Kevin Guarnotta Jamaica Plain, MA â78 Westy '69 Singlecab '65 Ez-camper -----Original Message----- From: david raistrick [mailto:keen at icantclick.org] Subject: Re: [T2] Phone Holder > When driving around, the charger appears to turn on and off. I was thinking that maybe the 12V port was not providing a constant 12V of power. that sounds like a short or a loose. > Or maybe it is a sign that my alternator is failing. Any suggestions on troubleshooting? just a volt meter - if you're getting ~13.5+ volts (really 14.something) when running (or at least above idle) anywhere in the system, you're charging adequately. if you add your loads, and that drops down below about that point, you're not charging enough. I'd stick that volt meter on the power outlet and see if it drops to zero a lot (short/loose wire...) assuming it's a cig outlet, the physical interface could just be bad (moving causing contacts to lose connection, etc).....
