It it not inside the transmission. REPEAT IT IS NOT INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION. Please look up the proper adjustment sequence in the Bentley book. I can't see to find the link tonight but did find a complete section on TheSamba. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=314613&highlight=shifter Save your money and take the steps to properly adjust the shifter first. The spring loaded bottom of the shift lever is not lining up correctly and that is why the shifter is "spinning". See image below towards the top. > On Aug 29, 2017, at 8:09 PM, Kevin Guarnotta <kevin at guarnottadesign.com> wrote: > > It is a â78, but yes I hope it is the coupling as well. > > All this time on the â65 â now Iâve got to do some work that actually earns me some money for a little while â before going back to the â78. Having given the description to my local mechanic â he thinks the problem is inside the transmission, and Iâll need to drop the engine and tranny. > > I plan on looking at the coupling some more â while I get someone to shift. Iâll try to compare what I see that what I think I should see based on the input Iâve gotten from the list. I will keep you posted, realistically wonât get to it until mid to late September. Iâd like to get it figured out before the winter, when I take it off the road. > > -Kevin Guarnotta > > â65 Kombi > â69 Singlecab > â78 Westy > Jamaica Plain, MA USA > > From: Anthony Hopkins [mailto:tony5amhopkins at yahoo.com] > Sent: Monday, August 28, 2017 2:59 AM > To: Jack Dinan <jdinan at cox.net>; Kevin Guarnotta <kevin at guarnottadesign.com> > Cc: type2 at type2.com; vintagebus at type2.com > Subject: Re: [T2] Good News > > We still hope your 1977 is the shifter couplingâ¦and would like to know more on that fix also. > > Tony > > On Sunday, August 27, 2017 1:00 PM, Jack Dinan <jdinan at cox.net<mailto:jdinan at cox.net>> wrote: > > Can you tell us what exactly what the problem turned out to be? > >> On Aug 26, 2017, at 1:22 PM, Kevin Guarnotta <kevin at guarnottadesign.com<mailto:kevin at guarnottadesign.com>> wrote: >> >> Good news for real now... >> I drove up to NH Friday night.
