Ok - here is my summary - 1. Shifting becomes a problem 2. Try to adjust front shifter plate at base of shifter- doesn't fix problem 3. Upon re-examination of shift rods, and suggestions from list - I check rear shift rod coupling. 4. The bushings inside this cage are shot. They need to be replaced. 5. Also notice while poking around - rear shift rod bushing (looks like badminton shuttlecock) appears to be missing. I learn this cannot be replaced without removing engine and transmission. This will be put on the "To Do' list. 6. Also noticed while poking around - part number 211 711 115a is split down the side. I think this is called a nosecone boot? Only appears to be available from Europe. Trying to figure out shipping costs - but it looks like shipping is almost $60 for an $8 part. I may RTV the split boot, then reinstall. 7. I will replace rear coupler cage piece bushings, but it is recommended to re-use original cage. The original cage appears to be in great condition. It was super greasy/dirty. When I replace this - should it be slathered in grease or left dry? Thanks to all on the list for enlightening me on this...more to come under a separate subject regarding heater tube... -Kevin Guarnotta Jamaica Plain, MA '78 Westy '69 Singlecab '65 Ez-camper
