Karl vonSalzen was a Mercedes mechanic.Who had a fondness for VW buses and used one nearly every weekend to camp in the foothills and pan / dredge for gold. (email was aufever. Get it?) He very much knew his stuff and was generous but if you ever questioned him, LOOK OUT! When I met him, it was a little spooky, a bit like looking into a mirror. That happened several times. But, well it might. Very many of us were about the same age, came from northern European immigrants, which is perhaps one reason we were attracted to German cars. so, we probably shared some DNA many generations earlier.
