Hi Guys, I think I've figured out what is going on with my turn signal switch. This a very interesting mechanical assembly. It relies on the cancel nubs to float so that when the lever is pushed or pulled and the nubs extend and hit the cancel ring, the nubs don't fully extend until the cancel ring clears. However when the cancel ring comes back across and hits the side of the nub (which has extended fully when the wheel is turned) the signal is canceled. Here is how the turn signal switch mechanism should work: 1. Push lever forward for a right hand turn while the steering wheel in centered and the cancel ring is on the adjacent to the switch. The cancel nub extends until touching the cancel ring. 2. Make the turn to the right. When the cancel ring clears the nub, the nub fully extends. 3. The steering wheel is returned to center after the turn is complete. The ring now hits the side of the nub and cancels the switch. The key here is that the cancel nubs float smoothly. 1.The original VW unit I have is just a bit worn out. It latches into left and right position when the ring is clear of the switch, however when the cancel nubs are jostled in any way, the mechanism cancels. The latching is no longer stiff enough to hold in position. The nubs do move smoothly. 2. The first repop unit I have works OK, except that the electrical shorting bars are a bit too wide as compared to the VW unit and the shorting bar bit is catching slightly and not returning completely leaving the blinker running until I joggle the handle a little. 3. the second repop unit I have is just a mess. All the stamped parts look good. It latches into left and right properly, however the cancel nub pieces are not floating smoothly because the stampings have burrs, or the rivets were pressed down too tight or the spacer is just a hair too short causing the nubs to drag. When actuating left or right, the nubs extend and hit the ring too hard causing the switch to instantly cancel. So, I have called the supplier and they are going to see if they can get one that works. Short of that I will return for a refund and look elsewhere. Maybe Bus Depot has units that work or maybe Wolfsburg West. Maybe I find a working unit on The Samba or at a swap. Where would you guys look? Cheers, Chris 71 sunroof 64DD Kamper Kit
