AH Ha !... there is WHY you have such bad fuel milage!
Charging those batteries take 5hp in losses in the alternator, and 12hp in 
current!!

Bob.. if you want better fuel milage... you can hypermile by running on 
electric on the flats,,  and down hill... and gas on the uphill,,

holy crow! also.. you might think of using a battery with some reserve 
capacity,, as the CCA to start a vw is only about 200amp.
