Carb adjustment help


Bus: 71 camper


Engine 1600 SP


009 dizzy


Condition: running rich and black smoke.


Last week I made to HCBF by a hair. 10 mpg and Cwis Slaymaker behind me
says I am blowing black smoke. Poor power on hills, 2nd gear a few pulls
where Cwis said he only needed 3rd.

Replaced plug wires, condenser, plugs, cap, rotor (tune up).  Set dwell at
50, had to set points at .013  to get dwell right. Timing set to 5 degrees
BTDC static, advance looks good at 29 degrees at 3000 + rpm. Plugs gaps
set. Compression 100 all around .


All old plugs were BLACK and sooty.


Valves were good. One was off .001 and reset.


I need some advice on carb adjustment at this point. Everything else “seems
dialed in”.
