I have pix of an original '66 table if you want.  I can say, with 
experience, that something is needed on the backside of the 1/8" ply to 
screw into.  Vibrations can make a table or whatever enlarge the screw hole 
and then fall off.  I drill the hole where I want it.  Then glue a small 
piece of solid wood over  the back. Then mount the item.
