One thing I've always wanted to do is a multi-stage trip, where you drive your bus to one city, park it in a long term parking or at a storage place, get a round trip ticket from that city to home, then keep going, one long weekend or one week every month or two.

It's harder with kids (more plane tickets to buy), but seemed like an intriguing way to do it.
