Production date

Until recently I thought this particular part of the plate revealed the production date of the vehicle. However, by comparing the plates with VW-'birthcertificates' it has become clear that this date indicates an event taking place a few days before the production. Assuming that the assembly of a vehicle would take one day, I think the day indicated could probably be the day the order was received by the factory. Any ideas on this are welcome.

To decipher the date you must first determine the modelyear of your T2. It can be read from the chassis number.

1968-1969 busses

From 1968 until approximately chassis number 2x 150 000 of modelyear 1969 the date was printed like this:

1969-1979 busses

From approximately chassis number 2x9 150 000 of modelyear 1969 until the last T2 in 1979 the date has been printed like this:

The number of the week. This number is not based on the production week but on the regular calendar. For example week 43 for a bus from modelyear 1978 is actually week 43 in 1977. A modelyear normally runs from August until July.

The number of the weekday.

1 = Monday

2 = Tuesday

3 = Wednesday

4 = Thursday

5 = Friday

6 = Saturday

Errors

I am not convinced these calendars are free of errors!
