Fiona: 1976 bay, 2000 cc, fuel injection I read and believe that 90% of all drivability problems with fuel injected cars are due to either bad grounding or vacuum leaks. In your case, my money is on a poor, wiggly, electrical connection. Follow the wiring harness to all its ends. If you decide to use an ohmmeter, do disconnect the large plug from the ECU so as not to subject it to the ohmmeter's testing current. Among the connections, one that is often missed is the connector to the cylinder head temp sender. It might feel tight inside the opaque plastic hull, but may not be a positive connection.
