[T2] warning: fuel pump minutiae

I've got 2 or 3 (I forget which at the moment) gaskets under the bakelite pump base and they work well for my kads.  Also heard you can grind down the rod, but never tried it (gaskets just seem so much easier).

Without resorting to a regulator, how can I reduce the pressure? 
Adding gaskets below the pump will only pull the rod away so it does 
not even touch the lever at the bottom of its stroke.
