Kevin. If you can't source a new cable,, then I have a suggestion ,,below, but I find once a cable makes noise,, it has a few broken strands and lube cant fix broken :p if you want to try lube,, I think you have to take it out,, and spend a saturday trying to get lube in.. but if you want to put a new one in.. its all over in 30 min! under $10 for a cable,, a can of lube costs me $7 .... Cut a 45 degree angle in the corner of a baggie. Stick the end of the cable into the hole. Tape the baggie to the outside of the cable housing with the cable hanging out of it. Let it hang from a hook, and fill the baggie with the lubricant of choice. sewing machine oil, 3in1 oil, something with PTFE in it.... This can also be done without the baggie if your lubricant has a needle hose that you can place into the cable, when it comes out the other end.. it has lube!
