resending from two weeks ago. Bob THanks to Troy and gang that got the list back up, kudos ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Sat, 22 Feb 2014 13:02:48 -0500 (EST) From: accessys at smart.net To: type2 at type2.com Subject: ignition gremlins, still!? 78 auto tranny mostly stock. . try to start, get VERY weak spark. . jumper from battery to coil + very strong spark . can remove jumper and engine continues to run and can be shut off with key. but engine won't restart without jumper.? obvious leakage (have cold start relay) gregg potts suggested a relay on coil so took + wire to coil and ran trigger to coil and hot from battery thru relay to coil. fires right up, but won't stop turn off ignition and engine keeps running somewhere leak keeps coil relay energized, pull wire from relay engine stops so obviously there is a current leakage that holds the relay energized that allows the engine to keep running.?? where. so 1. real fix when it gets warmer, where is problem keeping coil from getting full voltage for starting. 2. short term fix (gerry rig) where can I get a solid off/on cuircut to trigger the relay controlled by ignition switch??? ideas? suggestions, easy fix always appreciated. have been staring at wiring diagram for month and only thing happening is eyeballs falling out. ;{ this all started with cold weather (this is in theory a daily driver) so it appears the spark was weak but sufficient to get her going until things got rough. new coil new double relay all tests in Bentley are nominal, ????? 5 months to find, 5 minutes to fix, I hope not thanks Bob
