[T2] 1800 cc engine intake manifold fasteners

In final stages of installing a long block stock engine that I purchased in a 74 bus.  Have all the tin, etc. installed.  

When I installed manifolds, the studs started spinning in at least two of the eight studs.  

I had torqued to 14 ft lbs - maybe a wee bit more.

I thought helicoil to repair but getting strong advice against this. 

Instead advice is to oversize/tap the two holes using English threads since size will be only slightly larger than 8 mm.  

Any thoughts?
