Actually the smaller gen pulley does make the engine run too cold in cold weather. Even with the thermostat in place. Give it a try next winter. Personally I think it is too cold when the oil temps maybe reach 170 when freeway driving for an hour, then drop when I get off the freeway. When it is 90 F out I think it will be okay to run the small pulley. -----Original Message----- From: VWBrain <VWBrain at aol.com> To: claralw <claralw at aol.com>; l.s.griffiths <l.s.griffiths at salford.ac.uk>; vintagebus <vintagebus at type2.com>; c.dreike <c.dreike at verizon.net> Sent: Mon, Jul 22, 2013 10:13 am Subject: Re: [VB] redux: Porsche Pulley not if you have the thermostat hooked up and all the flaps in. later md In a message dated 7/22/2013 11:04:19 A.M. But not when it is cold. don't get rid of the stock pulley and belt. When the weather cools down in the fall you will want to change back, or the engine can be damaged by running too cold.
