main thing on the snap rings is to be sure to install them with the flat
side out. Look at them and you can see that they hacve a rounded side from
the stamping process, If put in backwards they can pop out, I have seen this
happen. also you dont have to take both sides all the way apart . just the
side oppisite of the ring gear,IIRC it is on the same side as the starter,
I would inspect the fuilcum plates as they are known for wearing out.

Once you get the rubber boots off and the hemispherical bells removed,
you will need a large snap ring plier for removing the snap rings. I
have a larger sized quality brand like proto or crescent needle nose
plier with the tips slightly bent that sort of works. Its quite the
job to get those buggers out. Be careful, easy to bark a nuckle or
worse in the process. Once the snap ring is removed, then all the axle
and plates and parts almost fall out. To reinstall the pieces, grease
them with moly grease or other nice similar sticky stuff to hold them
in place as you insert the axles. Installing the snap rings is no
easier than the removal, sadly.

Best of luck. Let us know how it turns out!

And after all the things I did for her/him.

Anyway, I was heading to work and thought I'd drive my old bus . so I
could
get it to Krown today. got to the top of my small hill and something
exploded . I think my transmission locked up . clutch still works so I
was
able to get into neutral and roll back down the hill into my driveway
.

I do have a rebuilt transmission I want to install . Dougie Dee did it
for
me maybe a year or so ago . anyway, my question.

How do you remove the axles (they are axles right?) from the side of
the
transmission. I've rebuilt redux boxes a couple times but I've never
taken
the axles off.

And - I'm going to be reinstalling the transmission that originally
came
with my 60 - is there anyway of knowing how it will perform with a
1500 or
1600 vs. the 1200 it was originally paired with.
