It means your engine will feel tired and old. The gearing is high, too high to match well with a 1600 motor. Especially if you will carry anything in the bus. I had a 3.88 r/p with big nuts in a 65 westy and regretted it. Wish I had gone with a 4.12 r/p The 4.375 r/p with big nut boxes in my 61 with 205/75/15 tires is matched perfectly for a 1600. That is the gearing VW used for a 63/64 one ton bus that came with a 1500. VW says cruising speed is 65, though I tend to drive a little slower. With a fresh 1600 I could cruise 65, or 70. It would go 75. It would drive over the Cascades on hwy 58 without having to drop into 3rd gear. Were you planning on building a bigger motor anyway? If not, I would get a different center section, perhaps a 4.125 or at the most a 3.88 r/p to go with the little nut boxes. What's all that mean? And with small nut redux boxes and. 2.05 tires with a fresh 1600 sp - will I cruise at 65?
