I have a 1776 motor, 3.88 r&p, 1.26 rgb and .82 4th gear. This seems to be a good combination. I would even go with a slightly larger motor. Ronnie at Bustoration has done a lot of work in this area. you might contact him for advice. Cheers, Chris. I wished I had got a 4.12 in there when I had it rebuildt, not the 3.88. The tall gearing made it seem a little wimpy, less pep. The 1600 did not have the power to use the 3.88; that gearing was just not the right size for the engine. If I had a fatter motor, it probably would have been nice, but I was going for the simple low maintenance 1600 single carbed motor. > > On the other hand, if you are using the little nut 1.39 boxes and a 1600, maybe the 3.88 would be good. > The 4.12 with little nuts and 15" rims is geared for a 40hp, so with a 1600 you could probably bump the gearing up a notch. > The 1600 is bumped up a notch from the 40hp. > use the bus 4th gear. > > don't be afraid to drive 3500 rpms. > > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: John Dillon <johndillon at johndillon.com> > To: veewee111 <veewee111 at aol.com> > Cc: Vintagebus <Vintagebus at type2.com> > Sent: Tue, Jun 3, 2014 6:43 am > Subject: Re: [VB] 59/60 tranny > > > Rancho suggested a 3.44 RP - what difference would that make? > > Sent from my iPhone > >> On Jun 3, 2014, at 9:11 AM, veewee111 at aol.com wrote: >> >> Hi C.Dreike, >> No problem. >> If one has a stock 1960-63 transaxle it will do 47 MPH @ 3,000 RPM in fourth > gear.
