[VB] 59/60 tranny

[VB] 59/60 tranny

i’m running a freshly rebuilt 1600 sp … its a great engine … 15” rims … small nut redux boxes (I wanna stick with small nut because i have a spare set) … when I first called rancho the guy on the phone recommended the 3.88 RP … but when I called back I spoke with a different guy and he said the 3.44 would be better for my combination …. (205 75 15 tires) … I said i wanted to cruise at about 60 at about 3000 rpms.

I’d go with rancho but its like $2,200.00 to ship complete transaxle to Canada … given the cost of shipping it doesn’t make sense to ship back the core ….

anyway, there are a few local guys who rebuild and I’m thinking i may just tell them what i need and save $1,000.00 ….

I’m thinking that there must be a table or something somewhere … plug in what you have and what you want and it tells you what you need?

>> ditto 3.88 with 1.26 rgbs and 14" wheels with 195 r 75 14 tires was a bit tall gearing for a 1600
>> It was annoying in my 65 westy. I wished I had got a 4.12 in there when I had it rebuildt, not the 3.88. The tall gearing made it seem a little wimpy, less pep. The 1600 did not have the power to use the 3.88; that gearing was just not the right size for the engine. If I had a fatter motor, it probably would have been nice, but I was going for the simple low maintenance 1600 single carbed motor.
>> On the other hand, if you are using the little nut 1.39 boxes and a 1600, maybe the 3.88 would be good.
>> The 4.12 with little nuts and 15" rims is geared for a 40hp, so with a 1600 you could probably bump the gearing up a notch.
