Not everyone replies to the lists, so have a bunch of other trouble shooting advice. Looking at the float was mentioned more that once, so I looked at that. When placed in gas, the float looked like an iceberg with only about 5% above the fluid line. I found an old pict in my stash and took the float out and let it soak in gas for 2 hours and it floated on the surface just fine. I took a weight and actually held it under the gas for a couple of hours and it came to the top just fine. All back together now and seems much better. We will see.
