Ok â I got a new set of points and condenser this morning. I had a new rotor in my stock of spare parts. I went to take the condenser off â and the bolt that goes thru the side wall of the distributor, also went thru what appears to be a small grounding strap. Searching the net â I see it is supposed to attach to the breaker plate. I also thought there was a small piece of felt supposed to go under the rotor. This is missing too. I also see that some distributors donât have this ground strap inside it. Iâm not sure where this one came from. I am guessing/hoping that my distributor doesnât need this ground strap? I got it back together. Still not running correctly. New Points, rotor, condenser. I checked the coil resistance â 3.8 ohms. Which I think is good. I have replaced the spark plugs. They were a little black on the end â as though it is running too rich. I took it for a ride â it is better, but still doesnât seem quite right. When I returned â the engine still seems way too hot for such a short drive. I have distributor JUR / 0231 137 005 / 111 905 205 N. Iâm bringing over to a VW mechanic to see what he thinks â Iâll keep you posted. I canât put any more time in this â I thought it would be a simple thing to get going again, so I could work on my â78 westy shifting issues. Instead Iâve spent a few days on it. I guess the good thing Iâve addressed some issues that needing attending to. -Kevin Guarnotta Jamaica Plain, MA â78 Westy '69 Singlecab '65 Ez-camper
