Kevin,
Is there a way for you to quantify the engine or oil temperature? Say
using an oven thermometer? Slide the probe down the dipstick hole?
Maybe your mechanic has a way to do this. "Seems Hot" just doesn't tell
for sure what is going on.
Amazon has a wide variety of mechanical and electronic units for low $'s
that would fit the bill. Search for oven thermometers.

I went to take the condenser off – and the bolt that goes thru the side wall of the distributor, also went thru what appears to be a small grounding strap. Searching the net – I see it is supposed to attach to the breaker plate. I also thought there was a small piece of felt supposed to go under the rotor. This is missing too.

I can’t put any more time in this – I thought it would be a simple thing to get going again, so I could work on my ’78 westy shifting issues. Instead I’ve spent a few days on it. I guess the good thing I’ve addressed some issues that needing attending to.
